You will receive two pieces of wood that are cut near 1 ½ x 5 ½ x 5/16 to 3/8+ inches. They come as a book matched set. These scales turn out AWESOME! If you have not attempted a stabilized set on a knife, you don't know what you are missing. They are not much harder to work with and they turn out so much better! The basic principle of wood stabilizing is to take a piece of soft or punky wood and inject it with resin to create a stable, hardened wood for knife making. The resin displaces air pockets throughout the grain structure, creating a dense blank that is nearly impervious to moisture changes and can be polished to a high gloss. Adding dye to the resin will give the wood a unique look and bring out the different densities in the wood. This process often takes about 5 hours to complete and requires the use of additional equipment, including a vacuum chamber, and an oven. These scales are also often used for making 1911 gun grips.
