I absolutely love these knives. I've been using them for about 2 years. We eat A LOT of carry out food on paper plates which seems to cause us to accidentally throw out silverware sometimes. I know, that's an awful thing to do...we really try not to! I ordered 8 of these two years ago and realized unloading the dishwasher the other day we now have 3!I couldn't remember where I'd purchased them and then found a set of 8 that was beautiful...all stainless...in our local Costco a few days later. I immediately washed them and placed them amongst our silverware in time for Thanksgiving, But we were very disappointed to discover the Costco knives, while beautiful, don't actually cut anything! I don't remember the brand of those but I figured I that I was stuck with them for a while.I was going to write an Ikea review of a product I just got from Amazon...and especially a review of the German seller who was so helpful...instead I discovered these in with my old orders! I'm very happy to have found them again and I'm replacing the Costco ones much sooner than I thought! These knives are well made, they don't do anything annoying like rust, they have a great weight and feel to them, and most importantly they cut well! I especially like them for cutting up salads and I won't use anything else!I needed to replace my Ikea knives from 12 years ago. I was pleasantly surprised to find that they still had the same quality as my other set. I put them through a lot so I hope to get 12 years from this set! At this price point I also like to give as gifts. We've had many of these knives for several years now. Initially they look great, but start to degrade over time to the point that we had to order new ones after a year or so. The old ones still work fine, but the handle pieces get misaligned and eventually bits break off. These knives will cut through all sorts of normal foods you would eat at dinner. Chicken, steak, potatoes, noodles, marshmallows, Piñatas....wait no. Not Piñatas. not saying they won't cut through Piñatas I'm just saying you shouldn't eat Piñatas. You can cut open a Piñata and eat the candy inside although you shouldn't have candy for dinner. Also you should not cut open a Piñatas you should hit it with a bat while blindfolded otherwise you're a heathen. Who just cuts open a Piñata? I guess people who want to have civilized birthday parties that are snobbish and rich but still have fun elements like Piñatas. Maybe rich people have Piñata cutting parties, I'm not sure... but if you're rich you probably are going to buy diamond edged knives. I'm not really sure. But rather if you're rich or not rich, yes, these knives will cut through your fancy dinner Piñata. The knives are OK for the price. Not all knives cut everything well. This knife is pretty sharp. One thing wrong they DON'T cut down straight. So if you hold the knife in your right hand and the item to cut in the left hand, as you cut down, the knife has a tendency to curve to the left toward your left hand. If you left hand is low to the cutting board & close to the blade, you COULD nip your fingers. This can be avoided if you consciously force the knife straight down with your reciprocating cutting motion. Not sure if there is such a thing as a left handed knife, but if there is.... this is one. Looking at the blade, the serrations are on the right & on the left edge, the smooth side is only very narrowly cut. I've seen knives (such as one model by Tramontina) with a wider smooth side edge bevel, cut straight down (it does make a significant difference).Nice knife in regards to looks and feel. The materials and steel thickness are impressive. I was optimistic. BUT......too bad they don't cut very well.I knew it immediately when I tried to slice an apple. An apple!! It took a lot of force so I tried my older knives that have been used and abused and they cut with much less effort. A simple cut test but it tells me something.Maybe it's the thick blades (impressive at first) or the serration pattern, I don't know, but these knives seem like they are dull and don't cut well in my opinion. Maybe they're fine for meat, I'll find out, but I wanted to use these for cutting fruit and vegetables also and I suspect the apple test is an indication of what to expect.Fast delivery and very reasonable price but not much of a knife. Yes it has a pointy end and it will saw through some material but that's about it. Goes through the dishwasher without staining so far but, since neither my wife nor I like their cutting quality, they haven't been through that many cycles. Handles are made of some indestructible material but, they are smallish and I find them difficult to hold comfortably while cutting. The cutting edge serration is the saw tooth variety but, like an aggressively set tree saw, it rips more than it cuts. The shape of the blade is such that they are not ideal for cutting using the forward part of the blade. May be good for ocassional table use but, I have a feeling these are going to end up at the back of the drawer. In all fairness we bought these because they were advertised as dishwasher safe and so far, they do seem to be that.Admittedly, as the son of a meat cutter and someone who's spent some time behind a meat block, I am a bit fussy about my kitchen cutlery. If you are in any way the same, try some other brand.I scored these on a lightning deal and am very pleased. I paid less than ten bucks, and my Prime membership provided free postage. Our steak knife supply had suffered attrition over the years, and now we are all set. We use this when we serve steak, obviously, but also now and then we use them as paring knives. They go through the dishwasher with no rust or other problems. Great deal!
